Excerpt from original program: "How this court house came to be, is a question naturally asked by many who see it. Visitor's and citizens of Santa Barbara County will want to know the important facts of the undertaking and something about the building itself. The Board of Supervisors offer this booklet to aid all who are interested in an appreciative understanding of its unique qualities. The present structure, dedicated August 14, 1929, takes the place of a court house erected in 1875. The old building, of simple, classic lines, was in its day a distinctive piece of architecture, and its cost, $60,000, was for its period not inconsiderable...."
