When the Santa Barbara Courthouse was constructed, it only had two original courtrooms; Department One and Two. Department One is directly above the boiler plant in the basement, two floors down. The exhaust duct is inside the plastered walls and very difficult to access. As the duct rises, it takes a 90 degree turn over the entry door to this courtroom. It is this flat section of duct that failed due to rust over the years. After a few years of water damage, the plaster and Mudejar ceiling just of the entry door to Department One also began to failed. Aside from failing plaster, posing a safety hazard, the Mudejar (dutch-metal) painted surfaces were also in desperate need of rescue. Funds were obtained to take care of this much needed repair.

We really appreciate the Judge allowing the work to continue--disrupting his calendar.
